Lucknow: UP Technical University (UPTU) has decided to implement the decision of Supreme Court to recognize transgender individuals as a third gender, in its application form from next session. The category third gender-‘TG' will be an option on the application form for UG, PG courses, admissions that will be conducted via State Entrance Exam (SEE).

By including this, UPTU will become the first state university to give respect to the third gender. Moreover, University Grants Commission (UGC) has also directed universities to open admissions for the TG's. Under this, admissions in engineering, management, and other professional courses will be open to admissions.

On 15th April, the Supreme Court recognized transgender people as the third gender. Now the third gender can be admitted to campuses and workplaces and will be entitled to reservation quota.
