Chennai: Chennai yesterday experienced continuous moderate rain triggered by what MET officials described as an 'upper air cyclonic circulation.'
"An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over west central and adjoining north west bay of North coastal Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coast. It extends up to Midtropospheric level tilting southwestwards with height. Under this synoptic situation, the sky condition would be overcast and light to moderate rain would occur over Chennai during the next 48 hours," a Meteorological official told PTI.
The moderate rain in city and suburban areas that began early in the morning inconvenienced office-goers and students.
The showers led to waterlogging in several areas besides causing traffic snarls.
"The sky conditions would be overcast. Light to moderate rain would occur. Maximum and minimum temperature would be around 26 and 24 degree Celsius respectively," the Regional Meterological Centre, Chennai said.
Rainfall in the 24 hours ending 0830 hours yesterday was (in mm) 21.4 (Nungambakkam)and 5.6 (Meenambakkam). At 17.30 hours, Nungambakkam registered 35.6 mm Meenambakkam 21.8 mm rainfall.
