Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh government has decided to construct a new dam on Gomti River in the state capital to cater to drinking water demands of the city residents.
Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav approved the project at a meeting held at his official residence, an official spokesman said in a statement here.
He said that to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply to the people of the city, a new dam will be built near Janeshwar Mishra park from which adequate water supply will be made to proposed water works.
Akhilesh said that for smooth movement of large number of vehicles, a four-lane road will be constructed along the Sharda canal between Faizabad and Kanpur roads.
The chief minister said that the two projects will prove useful in improving drinking water and traffic system in the city.
He also approved construction of a separate link road for elderly and physically weak pilgrims in Sangam area in Allahabad.
In addition to this, he directed to construct a four-lane bridge on Ganga river from Sangam to 1,250 metre downstream.
