New Delhi: Finance Minister Arun Jaitley presented the maiden budget of Narendra Modi government for the financial year 2014-14 on 10 July 2014 in the parliament. The government came out with several schemes, reforms, projects and assistances aiming at lowering the fiscal deficit and improving the present GDP of the nation. However, when talked about national capital “Delhi”, the finance minister had presented something good that Delhites would look forward to. Housing and basic services for the economically weaker sections have got a fillip in this year's Budget.Here are Top 10 beneficiary allocations specifically for the national capital “Delhi” from the Union Budget 2014.1. Power Sector ReformsThe city has been facing long power cuts during the peak summer months despite adequate availability of power. Major power transmission lines often trip when the load increases. Citing the extreme difficulty faced by Delhites, the FM has announced a separate fund of Rs 200 crore for reform in the power sector. 2. Water Sector ReformsPresenting the maiden budget, Arun Jaitley proposed Rs 500 crore for reform in the water sector in the national capital. Amid peak demand for water in the city, the budget allocation has given birth to the hopes of proper water supply system in the city. 3. Housing Sector AllocationThe city has received grants of Rs 700 crore for development projects under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission. Rajiv Awas Yojana is a key component of JNNURM for providing housing to the economically weaker sections.4. Security Funds (Delhi Police)Delhi Police will get Rs 4653.19 crore for fiscal 2014-15 rpt fiscal 2014-15 under the union budget. It is an increase of nearly Rs 400 crore from the last budget. Amid increasing crime rate in Delhi, this increase in budget for security is truly aimed at sprucing up training of Delhi police personnel and traffic infrastructure.The highlights include an increase of Rs seven crore for the installation of traffic signals in the national capital this fiscal.5. Delhi MetroFinance Minister Arun Jaitley allocated a total of Rs 3,470.16 crores for the ongoing progress of the works related to Phase III of Delhi Metro Rail Transit System project and expansion of Metro lines in the national capital region.Apart from this, the ministry of urban development will infuse Rs 838.07 crores as equity to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation's Phase III expansion.6. Central Assistance The Delhi government was allotted Rs 349 crore in the Union Budget as central assistance for 2014-15. However, it is Rs 682 crore less as compared to last year's provision of Rs 1,031 crore. 7. Compensation for 1984 VictimsFinance Minister Arun Jaitley has allocated Rs 50 lakh for enhanced compensation for 1984 riot victims. This fund can never heal the scars but surely can help the victims live a better life then before.This massacre which happened three decades ago is still alive in the minds of people who suffered inhumanity and lost their near and dear ones.8. Urban Development FundA separate amount of Rs 134 crore has been allocated for the National Capital Region under the budget allocation to the Urban Development Ministry. It will give boost to several infrastructural projects for the city.9. Income Tax RebateFinance Minister Arun Jaitley has tried to woo the middle class by extending the rebate on Income Tax. The bar is extended from Rs 2, 00,00 to Rs 2,50,00 per annum. Whereas for senior citizens, the slab is extended from Rs 2,50,00 to Rs 3,00,00 per annum. This benefit will be cherished by the working class of the national capital as well as the whole country. 10. Statistical SystemFM Arun Jaitley laid keen eye on lacking statistical system and assigned Rs 2 crore for improvement in this sector.
