New Delhi: The 32-year-old Uber cab driver, accused of raping a woman finance executive has been asked by the Delhi government to immediately surrender the registration certificate of the taxi in which the crime took place.

According to the transport department, Shiv Kumar Yadav has also been directed by the authorities to deposit pending dues of his taxi (No DL 1YD 7910) in which he allegedly raped the victim on the night of December 5.

"The permit holder Shiv Kumar Yadav is directed to immediately deposit the registration certificate of his taxi (DL 1YD 7910) with pending dues in the department's taxi unit in Burari," said a senior official of the transport department.

The accused driver was arrested from his hometown in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura. He allegedly raped the woman at around 9:30 PM that night, when she was heading home in north Delhi's Inderlok area.

Sources at the transport department said that since the accused is behind bars, any of his family member can submit the certificate on his behalf.

On December 8, the Delhi government had banned all operations by private cab service provider Uber and had blacklisted it from providing any transport service following the rape incident, which sparked a huge outcry.

It had also cancelled the permit and registration certificate of the taxi and driving licence of the accused.

According to the department, the taxi permit was granted on May 28 this year, after due verification of character and antecedents of the permit holder.

Delhi government had also banned unrecognised web-based cab services in the national capital.
