New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has made an explosive disclosure claiming that two Pakistani High Commission officials posted in Sri Lanka had conspired to send terrorists to India via the sea route near Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu, according to a report published in ‘The Economic Times'.
The purpose, according the investigative agency, was to launch an attack on the US consulate in Chennai and Israel mission in Bangalore in a re-run of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.
The NIA, in a 28-page chargesheet, said that while Amir Zubair Siddiqui worked as Counsellor (Visa), his superior is only known as ‘Boss'. The duo had tasked a Sri Lankan national Muhammad Sakir Hussain to come to India and focus on reconnaissance of the American consulate in Chennai.
The chargesheet claimed that Hussaien had many meetings with the two Pakistani officials in Lanka. He was told to take photographs of US Consulate in Chennai including the deployment and movement of police.
According to the chargesheet, Hussaien was told that planting bombs in American Consulate is code named as ‘wedding project' and ‘wedding hall' is the US Consulate (Target).
Hussaien was arrested in Chennai in April and admitted to all charges on November 27.
