Two Class XII girl students were attacked with a razor and robbed of their jewellery and money by an unidentified man outside their Carmel Convent School in Chanakyapuri in New Delhi this afternoon, police said.

The attack was so severe that Ritika, who lives in East of Kailash, got 42 stitches on her hand while Pallavi, who resides in Gurgaon, got 35 stitches.

The two students of Carmel Convent School had come to a Photostat shop outside the school when they were attacked.

"They were having their examinations. After today's exams, they went to get some study material photocopied. An unidentified man threatened them with a razor," a senior police official said.

He asked the girls to part with whatever money and jewellery they had. "The girls had taken out money from their bags and Ritika was removing her earrings when he suddenly attacked them with the razor and snatched the cash.

"It appears that he thought that the girl was taking time to remove the earrings and that he might be caught," the official said.  The girls suffered injuries on their hands, the official said, adding they were rushed to a nearby hospital.

Police said they have registered a case and efforts are on trying to trace the attacker.  A flower vendor and an photocopy shop employee were present on the scene when the incident took place. However, they were too frightened to act, the official said. PTI
