Srinagar, Sep 11: In a blatant abuse of power, a traffic policeman was beaten with rifle butt by a senior Jammu and Kashmir minister's escorts on Monday.
The incident happened after the traffic policeman stopped the convoy of Taj Moihuddin, J&K's Irrigation and Flood Control Minister, from jumping a traffic signal at Lal Chowk in Srinagar.
Sub Inspector Mohanlal dared to stop the minister's cavalcade that had failed to stop at a red signal at Lal Chowk in Srinagar.
When Mohanlal tried to stop them, two other policemen from Moihuddin's entourage tried to push him. Mohanlal, who was part of this team, tried to intervene and even he was beaten up with rifle butts. He was profusely bleeding and later taken to the hospital.
However, the minister said that he was not aware of this incident and it might have taken place. But police sources said that the minister should not have acted as a mute spectator.
Both the securitymen have been arrested.
