Nagpur: Various trade and lawyer organisations in Vidarbha are pushing their demand for a separate statehood to the region with many District Bar Association passing resolutions in their specially convened General Body meetings.
A unanimous resolution for separate state of Vidarbha was passed yesterday at the District Bar Association Buldana. Till now eight out of 11 District Bar Associations in Vidarbha region have passed such resolutions. These comprise:
District Bar Association, Nagpur, DBA Gondia, DBA Bhandara, DBA Wardha, DBA Chandrapur, DBA Gadchiroli, DBA Yavatmal and DBA Buldana.
A strong protagonist of Vidarbha, Advocate Shreehari Aney, senior counsel Supreme Court of India and High Court of Bombay, along with other colleague advocates Mukesh Samarth, Anil Kilor, Firdoz Mirza and Neeraj Khandewale and Dinesh Naidu is leading the group.
Aney, who is also the founder President of Vidarbha Connect-VCAN has embarked on a support building tour of entire Vidarbha along with the team and will be seeking resolutions from DBA Akola, Amravati and Washim in days to come.
Public meetings are also being held at various places where citizens are flocking in large numbers to hear Aney.
During these meetings Aney speaks about the legal history of Vidarbha, the economic need and justification of Vidarbha's statehood making people aware that how affluent people of Vidarbha were, before the state of CP and Berar was merged to create Maharashtra which brought poverty to the region.
Many trade and professional associations have already extended their full support to the separate Vidarbha movement by passing resolutions in their respective associations.
ag Vidarbha Chambers of Commerce (NVCC), Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICA) Nagpur Chapter, Vidarbha Tax Payers Association (VTA) and local journalists' body, are a few among the leading organizations espousing the cause.
All the resolutions will be a part of the detailed memorandum which Vidarbha Connect will be giving to Home Minister Rajnath Singh and to Prime Minister Narendra Modi soon to make them aware about the issues and plight of Vidarbha so that an early decision is taken by the Central Government to carve out Vidarbha as the 30th state of Union of India and thus keep its promise, Aney said.
