20 armymen killed, 11 injured in insurgent ambush in Manipur
In the worst attack in two decades, insurgents today ambushed a military convoy in Manipur's Chandel district killing at least 20 army personnel and injuring 11 others.Army and civilian authorities suspect the involvement of Manipur rebel outfit Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) and Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), a Meitei revolutionary organisation, who used landmines, rocket-propelled grenades and automatic weapons.
Arun Jaitley downplays monsoon fears; says govt has enough food stocks
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today sought to allay fears over predictions of deficient monsoon saying conclusions on that basis either on inflation or some kind of distress situation are “far-fetched”.
He also said in the last 48 hours, ever since the IMD predicted deficient monsoon this year, the conclusions were being drawn up in an exaggerated manner and it was necessary to place the finance ministry's view on the subject.

After Delhi, three more states— Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand—today banned the sale of Maggi noodles, as the popular instant snack came under mounting scrutiny over food safety concerns.
The Uttarakhand government banned the sale of Nestle's instant noodles for three months while in Gujarat the ban will be effective for one month after some samples of the food had failed lab tests, officials said in Dehradun and Gandhinagar
China ignores Modi's request for clarity on LAC, prefers pact on 'code of conduct'
China prefers a pact with India on a Code of Conduct to maintain peace along the border rather than clarification of Line of Actual Control proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit here last month.
Outlining China's first public reaction to Prime Minister Modi's proposal, Deputy Director General of the Asian Affairs at the Foreign Ministry Huang Xilian said both sides should try to reach an agreement on Code of Conduct as attempts to clarify mutual positions on the LAC had “encountered difficulties” in the past.
No need to worry about India: Gen Raheel Sharif
Amid an escalating war of words between Pakistan and India, army chief General Raheel Sharif today said there is no need to worry over India's posturing as Pakistani forces are capable of responding to any “aggression”.
“We know how to respond befittingly to any aggression from India,” General Raheel said, adding that there is no need to worry about anything that India says.
