2006 Mumbai train blasts case: 12 convicted, 1 acquitted

Mumbai: Nine years after seven RDX bombs kept in Mumbai suburban trains exploded killing 188 people, a MCOCA court here today convicted 12 persons in the serial blasts case.

Delivering the verdict, the Special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) Judge Yatin D Shinde pronounced 12 accused as guilty while acquitting one accused Abdul Wahid Shaikh (34) in the case.

Indian woman 'recruiter' for ISIS extradited from Dubai

Hyderabad: A Dubai-based Indian woman allegedly recruiting youth for terror outfit ISIS in Syria and Iraq was extradited here on Friday and arrested on arrival, police said.

New Delhi: Ahead of Bihar assembly polls slated next month, the Election Commission today ordered the transfer of state Home Secretary Amir Subhani, nine district magistrates and seven senior police official including SPs and SSPs and said those transferred from districts should not be posted to any election-related post.  

It asked the state Chief Secretary to send the poll body with a ‘compliance report' within 24 hours along with copies of transfer orders.

BMC withdraws ban on sale of meat; restrictions to stay only on Sept 17

Mumbai: Under fire for its decision to ban slaughter and sale of meat in the city for two days during Jain festival ‘Paryushan', the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) today told the Bombay High Court that it has decided to withdraw its decision.

MCGM informed the court of its decision during the hearing of a petition filed by meat sellers challeging the four-day ban on meat sales, which included two-day ban by the state government.
