Lalu-Nitish alliance surges ahead of BJP-led combine in India TV-CVoter poll in Bihar

New Delhi: The grand alliance forged by RJD, Janata Dal(U) and Congress in Bihar is  projected to win within a range of 116-132 seats in an assembly having a total of 243 seats, says India TV-CVoter poll, results of which were telecast tonight.

The BJP-led combine, comprising BJP, LJP, RLSP and HAM, has been projected to win within a range of 94-110 seats, playing second fiddle to the Lalu-Nitish-Sonia alliance, according to the opinion poll. 'Others' have been projected to win 13-21 seats, says the poll.

New Delhi: The Election Commission of India today announced the dates of much awaited Bihar Assembly polls.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Nasim Zaidi, in a press conference held today, said the polls will be conducted in five phases starting October 12 and ending on November 5.

6 pc hike in ‘Dearness allowance' to benefit central govt employees, pensioners

New Delhi: Dearness Allowance was today hiked to 119 per cent, up 6 percentage points, a move which will benefit over 1 crore government employees and pensioners.

"The proposal to increase dearness allowance by six percentage points (from 113 per cent) to 119 per cent was approved by Union Cabinet today," a source said.

2 journalists killed within 24 hours in Pakistan's Karachi

Karachi, Pakistan: Police in Pakistan say gunmen have shot dead two journalists in separate attacks in the country's violent port city of Karachi in the last 24 hours.

Police say the first attack Tuesday night saw gunmen open fire on a van of the private satellite news channel Geo TV, killing a technician and wounding the driver.
