Trade unions' strike to cause Rs 25,000 crore loss: Assocham

New Delhi: The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham) has estimated a loss of Rs 25,000 crore to the economy due to the all-India strike on Wednesday.

"Financial impact of the disruption of essential services might lead to an estimated loss of over Rs 25,000 crore to the economy thereby taking into account the numerous direct and indirect losses," Assocham secretary general D S Rawat said.

Peter Mukerjea and wife Indrani brought face-to-face, quizzed extensively

Mumbai: Police on Wednesday brought former Star India CEO Peter Mukerjea face-to-face with his wife Indrani and the two other accused in the sensational Sheena Bora murder case and questioned them extensively.

Mukerjea reached the Khar police station here this morning for recording of his statement. Indrani, her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyam Rai, who were allegedly involved in the murder, were also brought there a little later.

New Delhi:  Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was "aware of everything" in the process of allocating a coal block to Naveen Jindal group firm, ex-Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda told a special court on Wednesday.

Koda, who sought summoning of Manmohan Singh as an accused, said if there was any conspiracy to allocate the Amarkonda Murgadangal coal block in Jharkhand to Jindal group firm, it could not have been without the knowledge of the then Prime Minister who was also the coal minister at that time.

CWG street lights scam: Four-year jail terms for four MCD officials

New Delhi: A Delhi court on Wednesday awarded four-year jail terms to four MCD officials convicted in the Commonwealth Games (CWG) street lights scam.

Those awarded the jail terms by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Special Judge Brijesh Garg are Municipal Corporation of Delhi's then superintending engineer D.K. Sugan, then executive engineer O.P. Mahala, then accountant Raju V. and then tender clerk Gurcharan Singh.
