Govt abandons Kargil martyr Sourav Kalia, decides against dragging Pakistan to ICJ

The Central government has reportedly taken a U-turn in the case of Kargil martyr Sourav Kalia.

Talking to a newspaper, MoS for  External Affairs Gen VK Singh said   that it is not viable to pursue the matter in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) as it has many legal obstacles.

The response from the government comes after Captain Kalia's family asked for an international probe in the Supreme Court.

Higher service tax makes mobile, eating out, travel expensive

Eating out, mobile phone usage and air & rail travel have become expensive from today with the government hiking service tax rate to 14 per cent.

The government's proposal to increase the rate of service tax from 12.36 per cent (including education cess) to 14 per cent has come into effect from today.

The service tax is levied on all services, expect a small negative list.

'Acche Din' have arrived, says PM Narendra Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said that his government has succeeded in ushering in 'acche din (good days)' for the country during its one year in office.

In an interview to news agency UNI, the Prime Minister also took a jibe at those who were ridiculing the achievements of the NDA regime.

"Acche din aak chuke hain. Lekin kuch log hamare kaamon ko dhumil karne mein lage hain (good days have arrived but some people are trying to belittle the work done by us," he said.

Maggi row: Govt warns of action against brand ambassadors if ads found misleading

Maggi brand ambassadors including Bollywood star Madhuri Dixit were today warned of action by the Central Government if the advertisments for the noodles were found to be misleading.

The warning came even as the probe into alleged lapses of food safety standards in Maggi noodles, a popular Nestle brand, was widened with the government saying it is testing samples from all states and that strict action will be taken for any violation.

Sachin, Sourav and Laxman join BCCI's advisory panel

In what has been described as the start of a new innings, the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, former India captain Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman today joined the BCCI in a newly-constituted advisory panel to guide the Board in all matters related to the game.

BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur took to micro-blogging site twitter to announce the the induction of the three greats of Indian cricket, a move which was on cards for some time.
