Lalit Modi row: All charges against Sushma Swaraj are ‘baseless', says Arun Jaitley

Maintaining the government's stand on Sushma Swaraj controversy, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today rejected all allegations against the Foreign Minister saying she acted with good intentions.

In a press conference in the National Capital, Jaitley said, “All allegations levelled are baseless. Her (Swaraj) statement and that of the party President that whatever she did was with good intentions.”

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi today accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of ignoring the poor and the tribals, saying that although the government speaks of bullet trains, "only people with suit-boot" can enter these trains, not the farmers and the underprivileged.

He also charged that the BJP governments at the Centre and in Chhattisgarh were acquiring land in the name of development, which has not reached the doorsteps of the poor and the tribals.

Al-Qaida's No. 2 leader Nasir al-Wahishi killed in US strike

A US airstrike has killed al-Qaida's No. 2 leader, who commanded its powerful Yemeni affiliate, dealing the global network its biggest blow since the killing of Osama bin Laden and eliminating a charismatic leader at a time when it is vying with the Islamic State group for the mantle of global jihad.

In a video statement dated June 14 and released on Tuesday by the Yemeni affiliate, a senior operative announced the death of Nasir al-Wahishi, a veteran jihadi who once served as bin Laden's aide-de-camp, and said his deputy, Qassim al-Raimi, has been tapped to replace him.

Modi govt to release Rs 2,437 crore for flood-ravaged Jammu & Kashmir

The Centre today announced an additional package of Rs 2,437 crore for reconstruction and rehabilitation of flood-ravaged Jammu and Kashmir.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Home Minister Rajnath Singh, in a joint press conference, said Rs 2,602 crore had already been released last year by the government to help the state in relief and rehabilitation work.
