PM Modi launches 'Smart Cities Mission' for urban development

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched three ambitious schemes aimed at developing cities and towns as 'new engines for growth'.

The three projects are - 100 smart cities, Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) and housing for all.

The projects will entail an investment of over Rs. 3 lakh crore in the next five years.

Lalitgate: Arun Jaitley defends Vasundhara Raje, says ‘nobody is tainted'

New Delhi: Senior BJP leaders on Thursday jumped to beleaguered Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje's defence with Finance minister Arun Jaitley saying nobody is "tainted" and the party questioning authenticity of documents, showing her to have backed Lalit Modi's application for immigration to the UK.

"There is nobody who is tainted please," Jaitley told reporters at the Delhi airport after his return from the US.

The AAP government in Delhi on Thursday presented a Rs.41,129 crore budget for the 2015-16 fiscal for the national capital.

The maiden full budget of the AAP government was presented by Finance Minister Manish Sisodia who described it as the first "Swaraj budget" in the country.

Myanmar army moves closer to border with India in a bid to choke NE insurgents

Closing in on the militant camps operating in Myanmmar, the army of that country has positioned itself nearer the Indian border in a bid to choke the supply route of insurgents after surgical strikes by Indian forces earlier this month.

The current operation is aimed at insurgent camps operating in Taga of Myanmmar which requires seven days of travel through dense jungles from Indo-Myanmmar border, official sources said here.

Sushma Swaraj meets Chinese counterpart, raises Lakhvi issue

Kathmandu: External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj today raised with her Chinese counterpart Wang Yi China's blocking of India's move in the UN for action against Pakistan over 26/11 mastermind Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi's release, saying it was at "variance" with progress in ties.

In the meeting held on the sidelines of an international donors conference here, Swaraj told the Chinese Foreign Minister that Lakhvi was "no ordinary terrorist" as he masterminded the Mumbai terror attack in which more than 166 people were killed.
