The Savitribai Phule Pune University, formerly the University of Pune, was founded in 1948. It is one of India's premier Universities.
The university has numerous affiliated colleges, departments, and research institutes, which are primarily located in Pune. It is home to 46 academic departments including Communication and Journalism. This department was established in 1990.
The University campus is spread over an area of 411 acres.
The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has given the university ‘A' rating for its overall performance.
The university also operates a community radio, Vidyavani. It focuses on departments of the University, students' welfare schemes, information about exams and results and activities of the University.
