Asaram Bapu is a controversial godman in India. He has been involved in several controversies including criminal cases filed against him involving land encroachment by his ashrams, charge of sexual assault of a minor and his remarks on the 2012 Delhi gang rape.
He is the perfect example of crimes against women in the garb of religion.
This year on the night of 15 august this self styled godman was booked by Jodhpur police for raping a minor girl student of his Chhindwara gurukul ashram.
The minor girl hailing from a UP town alleged that she was sexually assaulted by the 72 year old baba at his cottage in Jodhpur. This shameless godman dismissed the girl's allegations and avoided arrest. He remained inside his other ashram in Indore.
Eventually, the Jodhpur police arrested him on September 1, 2013 from his ashram. He even said accusations were a conspiracy orchestrated by Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi of the ruling Congress Party.
He is currently in Jodhpur jail and his bail pleas have so far been rejected.
Several of his associates who entrapped the girl have also been jailed.
