New Delhi: Following is the timeline of developments related to the arrest, strip search, indictment and eventual return of Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade from New York:
November 2012: Sangeeta Richard, the domestic maid, arrived in the US and started to work for Khobragade on November 23, 2012.
March 2013: Khobragade files a lawsuit against Sangeeta Richard in Delhi High Court. According to the lawsuit Sangeeta Richard wanted to work outside on her off days, but she was told that it was illegal according to her visa status, and also because she had an official passport. Indian diplomat held for visa fraud in US, released on bail
June 23: Sangeeta Richard left Khobragade's home to buy groceries, and did not return.
July 8: Sangeeta Richard visited an immigration attorney's firm in Manhattan, New York and filed an application in order to demand a sum as her wages, and an ordinary Indian passport.
Sept 20: Justice Jayant Nath noted that any grievance about the terms of employment, salary or ill-treatment could only be adjudicated by an Indian court, since Sangeeta Richard and Khobragade worked for the Government of India.
December 2013: Devyani Khobragade, Deputy Consul General at the Indian Consulate in New York, was arrested on December 12 on the street while she was dropping her daughter to school.
