Mumbai: Security has been tightened in Mumbai in view of the execution of 1993 serial bomb blasts convict Yakub Memon.
Top police officers visited Mahim, where Yakub's his family resides, and reviewed the arrangements in the wee hours today.
Quick Response Teams of police, formed after the 26/11 terrorist attacks, have been deployed at a few places, including the Al Hussaini building, where the Memon family lives.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis held a meeting with senior police officials last evening on security situation as well measures to be put in place.
In a statement later, he appealed to the people to maintain restraint and respect the legal process.
As a preventive measure police have rounded up several criminals.
Yakub, the lone 1993 Mumbai serial blasts convict facing gallows, was hanged to death today after his last ditch attempts to get a reprieve failed early this morning in the Supreme Court.
He was hanged shortly before 7 AM at the Central Jail in Nagpur.
