Three UP Cops Suspended For Dragging Woman IPS Officer On Bareilly Road

Bareilly(UP): After the suspension of three constables, disciplinary action was initiated on Saturday  against two more policemen in connection with the dragging of a woman police officer on road by her subordinates when she objected to extortion by them during checking of vehicles. 


Suspecting their complicity in the act, IGP Gurbachan Lal had been directed to take departmental action against the gunner and the driver of SP (Traffic) Kalpana Saxena, official sources said here. The two remained a silent spectator when Saxena was dragged on the road by three traffic police constables who sped away in a vehicle on Thursday evening.

The incidenet happened when the 1990 batch officer of the Uttar Pradesh Provincial Service objected to alleged extortion by them during checking of vehicles.

The woman police officer, who suffered a fracture in the hand and injuries in the head, was re-admitted to the hospital on Friday night after she complained of uneasiness and headache. Constable Manoj and another person Dharmendra, a civilian, had been arrested in connection with the incident. 

Efforts were on to nab two more traffic policemen who who were on the run, the sources said.  


The  woman IPS officer was on Thursday dragged by her own subordinates in full public view on a busy Bareilly road, leaving her profusely bleeding because she had objected to extortion by three policemen in the name of routine traffic checking, reports Mail Today.Superintendent of police ( traffic) Kalpana Saxena is currently in hospital after suffering deep injuries on her back and arms.

Saxena told the doctors that she acted after receiving a call from an army officer.He told her the police officers were demanding bribe from some people near the Bareilly- Lucknow road and misbehaving with those who were questioning their act.

“ I rushed to the spot. When I asked the officers why they were extorting money, they told me to get lost. They said I should stay in my office and let them do their duty,” Saxena said.




But when she persisted, “ the constables got in their police jeep, held me by my hand and started the vehicle. They dragged me for a kilometre”, Saxena added.She said they did not bother about the watching public.

“ Later, they pulled me on the road and even tried to run the jeep over me. But the passersby saved me,” Saxena alleged.The accused have been identified as Ravindar Kumar, Manoj Singh and Ravindra Singh.Saxena plans to register a case against them after she is discharged.

“ They knew me well and deliberately dragged me to terrorise the public and send the message that they don't even fear their superiors,” she said.

Rakesh Kumar Jolly, police superintendent said he had already registered a case against the men. “ They are absconding but we have sent teams to arrest them,” he said.PTI
