Thane girl deactivates her Facebook account, 10 held for vandalizing her uncle's clinic sent to judicial custody

Mumbai, Nov 20: Ten persons, possibly Shiv Sena activists, arrested for vandailizing the clinic of a doctor, whose daughter posted a Facebook comment were today sent to 14 days judicial custody by a local court. The lawyer for the ten vandals said, he planned to move a bail application. Meanwhile, there has been widespread outrage over the brief arrest of the two girls in Palghar who posted a comment on Facebook objecting to the Mumbai bandh during Bal Thackeray's funeral.Shaheen Dhadha told a news channel that she had posted her comment on Facebook saying, men like Bal Thackeray die every day and there was no need for a Mumbai bandh, at around 7 pm. “15 to 20 minutes later, there was a phone call asking me whether I had posted the comment myself. When I said yes, the phone got disconnected”, said Shaheen. “At around 7:30 pm, the policemen came and asked me to come to police station. They asked me to give an apology in writing, which I did. They asked me to come to the police station the next morning. At 7:30 am the next day, I went with my father. They did not say anything and we sat in the police station, and I was later asked to go”, said Shaheen Dhadha. “Since then, I have deactivated my Facebook account”, she added. Meanwhile, some persons barged into Shaheen's uncle Dr Abdul Dhadha's clinic and ransacked the entire place. Said Dr Abdul Dhadha: “I was not there, as I had gone to Mahabaleshwar to celebrate my wedding anniversary. I don't know who the vandals were.“We respect Balasaheb Thackeray. Nobody can even touch his stature. On police request, my niece have her apology in writing. Psychologically, the two girls are traumatized, but we want peace in Palghar”, said Dr Abdul Dhadha.Asked about Shiv Sena's objection to Shaheen's comment, Dr Abdul Dhadha, there was nothing wrong in the comment. I have treated so many politicians in my clinic. They told me there was nothing wrong.”Communications and IT minister Kapil Sibal said, the police was in the wrong to have arrested the two girls for their Facebook comments. “I think police did not understand the real import of Section 66A of the IT Act. We can't snatch away the freedom of expression of people. I condemn this arrest.”Minister of state for IT Milind Deora said, this is a case of undue harassment. It's necessary that the Home Ministry and the government of Maharashtra take action in this case, as neither section 66A of IT Act of sections of IPC are not applicable in this case, said Deora. Meanwhile, Maharashtra Director General of Police Sanjeev Dayal has ordered a probe into the arrest of the 21-year-old girl and her friend.“An inquiry has been ordered in the case and a report will be submitted by the inspector general of the Konkan range Saturday,” Dayal told IANS.Thane rural police Sunday arrested Shaheen Dadha for questioning the shutdown in the city after Thackeray's death Saturday, and the subsequent shutdown Sunday for his funeral and cremation.Another girl in Dadha's friends' list, who ‘liked' the comment, was also arrested.Press Council of India Chairman Markandey Katju Monday criticised the arrests in strong words and requested Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan to suspend the official who arrested the girls.
