Terror Suspect Rana Had Stayed In Ahmedabad Hotel With Woman

Tahawwur Hussain Rana, a Canadian national of Pakistan origin arrested by FBI for his role in a terror plot to carry out attacks in India, had stayed at a hotel in Ahmedabad last year along with a women.

"He (Rana) had stayed at our hotel in Ahmedabad last year," said Rahul Pandit, vice president (operations) of 'Lemon Tree' chain of hotels, over telephone from the group's corporate office in New Delhi.

Pandit said Rana was accompanied by a woman during his stay in the hotel last November.

He, however, declined from divulging more details saying, "the National Investigation Agency has already contacted us and we have supplied all the details regarding him (Rana) to them."

Following investigations into the pan-India visits by Rana and US citizen David Headley, also arrested FBI, sleuths learned about the presence of a woman, suspected to be his wife, during his trips to a number of Indian cities.

The woman, according to investigating agencies has been identified as Samraz Rana, a Canadian national born in Bahawalpur of Pakistan.

The NIA has registered a case against Headley and Rana under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and for conspiring to wage war against the country.

It has claimed that Rana had links with Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba.

The investigating agency is also probing the duo's role in various terror strikes in the country, including the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.

Headley, a 49-year-old Pakistan-born US citizen, was arrested in Chicago last month by the FBI, which said he was part of an LeT plan to carry out terror attacks in Delhi's National Defence College, Dehradun's Doon School and Woodstock in Mussoorie.

Gujarat police had confirmed Headley's presence in Ahmedabad along with one of his accomplice. However, it is not yet clear whether Headley was present in the city at the same time as Rana, police sources said adding the matter was under investigation. PTI
