Hyderabad, May 30 : The Telugu Desam Party today demanded that Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, arrested by the CBI in the disproportionate assets case, be lodged in Tihar jail to prevent his interaction with other top accused in the case lodged in the Chanchalguda jail here.
TDP also wanted that the “special class” prisoner status of Jagan be withdrawn.
The YSR Congress Party chief has been lodged as a special class under-trial prisoner under judicial remand at Chanchalguda jail where former minister and co-accused Mopidevi Venkata Ramana, industrialist Nimmagadda Prasad, bureaucrat K V Brahmananda Reddy and other accused were also lodged.
“How can a person accused of looting the nation's wealth be given special class prisoner status? How can he be allowed to share the same barracks with other accused? Would Jagan not threaten the other accused when there were reports that he manhandled Prasad right in the presence of CBI officials,” TDP MLA Y V B Rajendra Prasad said.
He questioned the state government's motive in keeping all the accused in the same barracks in Chanchalguda prison and demanded that Jagan be immediately shifted to Tihar jail by withdrawing the special class prisoner status.
The other accused should also be lodged in different jails, he said.
