New Delhi: A car caught fire today in the high-security zone near Rashtrapati Bhavan but no one was injured in the incident, Delhi Fire Service officials said.
According to the officials, they received a call at around 1:45 PM that a car went up in flames at Vijay Chowk. Two fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the blaze was doused by 2:00 PM. No injury was reported in the incident.
“The car belonged to the control room of the Cabinet Secretariat. It seems that the car caught fire due to short circuit in its electrical wiring. We are waiting for a report from the fire department,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) S B S Tyagi.
Eyewitnesses said the car was going towards Rajpath from North Block when smoke started coming out of its bonnet.
By the time its driver stopped the vehicle and came out, it was up in the flames.
