Tamil Nadu CM sanctions Rs 5 crore for J&K relief operations

Chennai: Extending a helping hand to the state of Jammu and Kashmir which is tackling a massive natural disaster, the Tamil Nadu government  today sanctioned a sum of Rs 5 crore to expedite the rescue

Chennai: Extending a helping hand to the state of Jammu and Kashmir which is tackling a massive natural disaster, the Tamil Nadu government  today sanctioned a sum of Rs 5 crore to expedite the rescue operations.

"The unprecedented floods and landslides have caused extensive damage to property and taken a heavy toll of lives. This has also caused untold sufferings to the people of the state and tourists visiting Jammu and Kashmir,” said Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in a statement.The flood situation in Jammu and Kashmir has already been declared as a national disaster by the Central Government. The Army has evacuated more than 20,000 people from inundated areas in the state till now.

Expressing her grief over the loss of lives in J&K, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa said: "On behalf of the state government and people of Tamil Nadu, I convey my heartfelt condolences to the family members of all those who have lost their lives in the colossal tragedy.”

“As a token of the support and solidarity of the government and people of Tamil Nadu with the government and people of Jammu & Kashmir in their hour of need, I have ordered the immediate contribution of a sum of Rs 5 crore from the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund to the government of Jammu & Kashmir," she added.

"Jammu and Kashmir is faced with the arduous task of ensuring immediate rescue, relief and rehabilitation measures in the flood ravaged areas and reconstruction of the devastated areas.”

Furthermore, the CM said: The government of Tamil Nadu stands ready to render any other assistance as may be required by the government of Jammu and Kashmir.
