New Delhi, Jan 9: Senior IAS officer Rajiv Takru was today promoted and appointed as Secretary, Financial Services, in the Finance Ministry, a department that oversees the functioning of banks, insurance companies and other financial institutions.
Takru, a 1979-batch officer of Gujarat cadre, was given the key assignment, a promotion from his present post of Additional Secretary and Financial Adviser in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Takru, who was earlier CEO of Prasar Bharti and had worked in the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, will succeed Dinesh Kumar Mittal, who retires on January 31.
An official release said the Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC) headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has also approved the appointment of Ravi Mathur as Secretary in the Department of Disinvestment under the Finance Ministry.
Mathur, a 1979-batch IAS officer of Rajasthan cadre, is currently Additional Secretary in Ministry of Labour and Employment.
The ACC has also appointed Prof K Vijayraghavan, Director, National Centre for Biological Sciences, Bangalore as Secretary, Department of Biotechnology, the release said.
