Chandigarh, Jan 26: After a shoe was hurled by a shopkeeper at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the Punjab police in coordination with Special Protection Group guarding the Gandhi scion has became extra cautious.


All frontrowers are asked to take off their shoes at Rahul Gandhi's rallies in Punjab.

In Forezepur rally on Wednesday,  policemen asked those seated closest to the dais to take away their  sports shoes.

Only those wearing sandals or regular shoes were allowed to keep them on, reports Times of India.

Inspector Gurpiar Singh said, we have been asked to to screen people's shoes after the Uttarakhand incident.

At Dana Mandi spectators were told not to carry even mineral water bottles inside, reports Indian Express.

“They can act as a spoilsport as well. After yesterday's incident, we have been given clear instructions,” said a Congress supporter busy making arrangements.

The security staff on duty was also told to stay “without water.” “We went inside the Mandi and had our fill of water in the morning and then performed our duty without any water.

We are used to such types of conditions. Moreover, the weather was good today,” a policemen who was deputed on VIP duty said.

Water was served only on the stage from where Sonia  Gandhi others were to address the masses. Security forces were deputed all over keeping a close eye on the crowd.

So much so, that people who stood up to click photographs were bluntly told to sit down.

However, to every one's surprise, Sonia Gandhi, attired in a black Kashmiri embroidered suit, came near the gathering to greet the masses.

“She took an envelope from me. It was letter of thanks for appointing me as the media in-charge,” party leader Amarjeet Singh Tikka said.

Kastoori Lal, block President Samrala said, “This used to be the style of former PM Indira Gandhi and the same has been followed by Sonia Gandhi as well. I saw her from close quarters.”

Kashmiri Lal Bittu, block President, Sahnewal added, “I waved at her and she gave a response. In fact, she responded to each and every hand thaty waved at her.”
