Jaipur: Ten more people succumbed to swine flu in Rajasthan, taking the death toll in the state to 49 this year, health officials said today.  Of the ten new deaths recorded yesterday, five persons died in Ajmer, two in Jodhpur, one each in Nagaur, Jaipur and Tonk, an official of the state medical and health department said.

The victims were admitted in state-run and private hospitals, they said.

Meanwhile, the health of former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, who had tested positive for swine flu, was said to be improving and was in better condition, his personal secretary told PTI.

In a tweet, Gehlot said he had tested positive for the H1N1 virus but his condition has improved after starting treatment in time.

Rajasthan had witnessed 49 deaths due to H1N1 virus in the New Year, prompting the state government to direct senior medical officers from the medical directorate to go to various districts for effective monitoring of cases of swine flu.  The toll of deaths included 26 females and 23 males.  Jaipur recorded 14 deaths, Ajmer 9 and Nagaur 6, with two each in Tonk, Bikaner, Dausa, Jodhpur, Barmer, Kota, Bundi, Banswara, and one each in Alwar, Dungarpur, Pali, and Jhunjhunu.
