Nay Pyi Taw: External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Special Assistant to Pakistan Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi today exchanged pleasantries on the sidelines of the ASEAN meet here ahead of the meeting of the foreign secretaries of the two countries.
“They exchanged pleasant courtesies,” External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said. Foreign Secretaries of India and Pakistan will meet in Islamabad on August 25.
The decision to re-start foreign secretary-level talks was actually taken during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's meeting with Pakistani Premier Nawaz Sharif when the latter came to New Delhi to attend Modi's swearing-in ceremony.
The composite dialogue between the two countries had hit a deadlock following the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
India and Pakistan have been, for the past two years, talking about meetings between their Director Generals of Military Operations in view of the spate of ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC).
