Bangalore: The woman bank official, who was brutally attacked at an unguarded ATM kiosk here, was discharged from the hospital yesterday after undergoing treatment for more than a month.

“She has been discharged with advice to continue medication and come for rehabilitation on an outpatient basis.

We expect her to get back within a month's time from now,” BGS Global Hospitals Chief Neurosurgeon and vice-chairman Dr N K Venkataramana told reporters here.

On November 19, 38-year-old Jyothi Uday, an officer with the Corporation Bank, was attacked with a machete inside the ATM kiosk and the gory act was caught on CCTV footage, sparking a national outrage.

Jyothi was hospitalised with compound injuries to the brain and face.

She also had suffered from skull and brain injuries along with dense weakness of right hand and leg, Venkatramana said.

She claimed the police could have swung into action earlier because delay causes thin chances of nabbing the assailant.

Recollecting the incident, Jyothi said, on the fateful day she had gone to withdraw money from the ATM for her daughter's fee when a man barged into the kiosk and pulled the shutter down.

The accused allegedly slit her neck with a sickle, which left her unconscious and bleeding for nearly three hours.

A month after the brutal attack, the assailant is still on the run even as police said they were making “all efforts” to nab him.
