Srinagar, Oct 25: Normal life was today disrupted in parts of Kashmir Valley due to a strike called by hardline faction of the Hurriyat Conference.
Shops, business establishments and private offices remained closed on account of the strike called by Syed Ali Shah Geelani against the recent killings and in support of his demand for withdrawal of central troops from the state, official sources said.
The effect of the strike was felt in Srinagar city's commercial hubs of Lal Chowk, Budshah Chowk and Batmaloo and major towns of the Valley, the sources said.
However, shops were open in many localities of Srinagar city and other towns and hamlets of the Valley.
A large number of private vehicles could be seen plying on the roads of the city and other inter-district routes, ignoring the strike call given by Geelani, they said.Some public transport buses were also seen plying in the civil lines areas of the city.
A police spokesman said the situation so far was peaceful with no untoward incident reported from anywhere in the Valley.PTI
