New Delhi: A high level meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sri Lankan president Maithripala Sirisena is all set to take place on Monday. Both the leaders will chart out a course of action that could form closer ties between two countries.

The Sri Lankan president Maithripala Sirisena arrived in New Delhi on Sunday evening on his first foreign visit after taking the office last month. He will receive a ceremonial reception at the Rashtrapathi Bhvan on Monday morning.

President Pranab Mukherjee will host a banquet for the visiting dignitary on Monday evening.

The bilateral discussion between the two nations will focus on expanding their cooperation in various fields such as trade, economy, education and tourism.

A key issue that is to arrive in the discussion is India's demand to give equal political rights to the Tamil.

India also expects Colombo to be sensitive about its security concerns in the Indian Ocean region where China's presence is continuously increasing.

Sirisena has always been seen as pro-Indian leader contradictory to his predecessor Mahinda Rajapaksa's pro-china image. The visiting president will also visit Bodh Gaya and Tirupati.
