New Delhi: Thirteen homeless people, sleeping on a footpath, were run over by a speeding vehicle at Nigam Bodh Ghat in New Delhi's Kashmere Gate area late on Sunday night.
An eyewitness said that all 13 people were sleeping on the pavement when a speeding Mahindra Quanto ran over them.
Another eyewitness said that there were two people -- one woman and driver -- inside the vehicle at the time of incident.
As soon as police was informed about the incident, they rushed to the spot and cordoned-off the area.
The vehicle was coming from Jahangir Puri and heading towards ITO. Both were caught in a compromising position, police said.
“The incident took place around 10 pm. All 13 people were sleeping on foothpath when a speeding Mahindra Quanto ran over them.,” DCP (North) Madhur Verma said.
All the injured persons have been rushed to a hospital for medical assistance, he said.
The driver of the vehicle and woman are now in police custody, Varma added.
