Ahmedabad: Nine women Congress workers were briefly detained by police while holding a protest against Chief Minister Narendra Modi in connection with the snooping row.

The women Congress workers were detained under section 68 of Gujarat Police Act near Rupali Cinema after they tried to burn the effigy of Modi, protesting against alleged illegal surveillance of a woman, police said.

They were released soon afterwards.

Ahmedabad Mahila Congress president Mandakini Patel said that instead of ordering illegal surveillance on women, the police force should utilised for tracing missing children and investigating rape cases and other crimes.
