New Delhi: With the mentors of the six new IIMs being finalised, government on Wednesday said it is prepared to commence academic activities of these IIMs from the coming academic session.
The new Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) is expected to increase the intake of students to the IIMs by another 300 seats and their number to 19.
The six new IIMs, announced in the last budget, are coming up in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra and Punjab.
With the availability of land being a crucial issue, HRD Ministry said it is in close contact with the state governments to finalise the sites.

HRD Ministry is prepared to commence academic activities of these IIMs from the forthcoming academic session if state government allot land timely as mentors have already been finalised," officials said.
It said the mentor IIMs have already been communicated in November last year about the new IIMs they would be looking at.
While IIM Bangalore will mentor the IIM in Andhra Pradesh, IIM Calcutta will mentor Odisha and IIM Indore will look after the IIM in Bihar.
Similarly, IIM Lucknow will mentor the IIM in Himachal Pradesh, IIM Ahmadebad will mentor the IIM in Maharashtra and IIM Kozhikode will mentor the IIM in Punjab.
