Gwalior: At least six persons were today injured in a stampede following violence by candidates after cancellation of an Army recruitment rally here, police said.
Nearly 15,000 candidates from nearby districts turned up for the rally at the local Mela Ground this morning.
However, due to alleged mismanagement, Army authorities cancelled the rally at the last minute following which the enraged job aspirants went on a rampage, Inspector General Adarsh Katiyar told PTI.
Some unidentified candidates torched 6-7 vehicles, damaged a few others and some properties in the area, he said.
Six persons suffered injuries in the stampede. They were admitted to a local hospital and later discharged after being provided medical treatment, the IG said.
Police had to cane-charge the candidates and lob tear gas shells to disperse the unruly mob, he said.
The situation has been brought under control, he added.
