Singhvi Renominated As Par Committee Chairman On Lokpal

New Delhi, Sep 15: Abhishek Singhvi was tonight reappointed chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances and Law and Justice, paving the way for early consultations over the Lokpal Bill.


The 31-member Committee is among the several Parliamentary Committees reconstituted by Speaker Meira Kumar in consultation with Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari.

RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and Manish Tewari of Congress from the Lok Sabha and Amar Singh from the Rajya Sabha are among those renominated to the Committee which has been asked to give its report within three months.

The term of the earlier committee headed by Singhvi was over by August 31 like all other parliamentary committees.

While the Rajya Sabha has renominated most of the members on this Committee as also on other Committees, the Speaker decided the composition from the Lower House in consultation with political parties.

While Shanta Kumar of BJP has been renominated chairman of the Committee on Commerce, his party colleague M Venkaiah Naidu will head the Committee on Home Affairs.

Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi has been renominated as a member of the Committee on HRD, headed by Oscar Fernandes.

DMK leader Tiruchi Shiva will head the Committee on industry while T Subbarami Reddy continues to be the chairman on Committee on Science and Technology.

BSP leader Brajesh Pathak has been made chairman of the Committee on Health and Family Welfare in place of Amar Singh, while Sitaram Yechuri has been retained as head of the Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture and Congress leader Satpal Maharaj as head of Committee on Defence and SP supreme Mulayam Singh Yadav as head of Committee on Energy.

Ananth Kumar of BJP is the Chairman of the Committee on External Affairs and Yashwant Sinha, also of BJP, of the Committee on Finance.

Congress general secretary Vilas Muttenwar is the head of the Committee on Food, Consumer Affairs and PDS while V Arun Kumar heads the Committee on Petroleum and Natural Gas.

BJP leader Sumitra Mahajan has been renominated as head of the Committee on Rural Development which will discuss the much-talked about Land Acquisition Bill.

BJP veteran L K Advani continues to be a member on the Committee on Home Affairs, while BSP leader Dara Singh Chauhan has been made chairman of the Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment and Deep Gogoi on the Committee on Water Resources.

Some vacancies are still to be filled in some Committees, including the Committees on Commerce, HRD, IT and Science and Technology.

The important Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances and Law and Justice has Kirti Azad, N S V Chitthan, Deepa Dasmunshi, D B Chandre Gowda, Shailendra Kumar, Chandresh Kumari, Prasanta Kumar Majunmdar, Arjun Ram Meghwal, Pinaki Misra, Meenakshi Natarajan, Harin Pathak, Lalu Prasad Yadav, A Sampath, S Semmalai, Vijay Bahadur Singh, Prabha Kishore Taviad, Manish Tewari, P T Thomas, Arun Yadav and Madhusudan Yadav from the Lok Sabha as its members.

From among the Rajya Sabha members nominated in this Committee are Balavant alias Bal Apte, Ram Jethmalani, O T Lepcha, Bhalachandra Mungekar, Shantaram Naik, Parimal Nathwani, Ram Vilas Paswan, Sukhendu Sekhar Roy, Amar Singh and Abhishek Manu Singhvi. PTI
