Sibal tries to bring on board Opp on key education bills

New Delhi, Jul 13: With key Bills on higher education pending in Parliament, HRD Minister Kapil Sibal is reaching out to the Opposition seeking their support for their passage in the Monsoon session of Parliament.

New Delhi, Jul 13: With key Bills on higher education pending in Parliament, HRD Minister Kapil Sibal is reaching out to the Opposition seeking their support for their passage in the Monsoon session of Parliament. 






Sources said he has already met senior BJP leaders like Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj as well as Arun Jaitley recently as the passage of these crucial bills holds key to expedite reforms in the higher education sector.

 As many as eight bills including the education tribunals bill, higher education and research bill, the prohibition of unfair practices in technical, medical institutions and universities bill, the foreign education bill, the national accredition regulatory authority bill are among those to be passed.

While Universities for Research and Innovation Bill, 2012 was introduced in Parliament during the fag end of the Budget Session, the Ministry proposes to introduce a bill in the coming session making Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) a statutory body.

Earlier, Sibal had met leaders of UPA constituent allies besides the Opposition camp to evolve a consensus on these bills.
