In 1895, Talpade flew the first unmanned aeroplane to a height of 1,500 feet, but it later fell down to earth after a few minutes. He called this aeroplane Marutsakha.
Belonging to the Pathare Prabhu community of Maharashtra, Talpade's unsuccesful experiment was watched by the ruler of Baroda Sayaji rao Gaekwad and nationalist M G Ranade.
