Aizawl: Security has been beefed up to ensure peaceful Christmas celebrations in Mizoram as the state gears up for the celebrations from tonight.
Aizawl district SP L R Dingliana Sailo told PTI today that three platoons of armed police personnel conducted street patrolling inside the city, while round-the-clock mobile patrolling was also on.
Sailo said besides armed cops, policemen led by senior officers were also deployed at different parts of the capital city accompanied by doctors who would come in handy to treat victims of road accidents.
“Police teams would be visiting sensitive localities and coordinating with local volunteers to ensure trouble free Christmas celebrations,” he added.
State armed police and para-military forces deployed, specially along the 318-km long international border with Bangladesh and Tripura, were alerted to keep a strict vigil.
Top state police officers, SPs of districts adjoining the borders, commandants of armed battalions and BSF officers have already held discussions on security issues along the Bangladesh and Tripura border areas.
At least six cases of abduction have taken place on the Mizoram-Bangladesh-Tripura border areas in the past five years.
