Amritsar, March 1 : The Taran Taran police has arrested a school teacher Sarita Sachdeva on charge of cutting off the hair of a Class Five Sikh girl student Kamaljit Kaur in Arya Girls School, 25 km from here, reports India TV reporter Rakesh Gupta.
The incident took place on Feb 25, when Kamaljit Kaur attended her class, and the teacher scolded her before cutting off her hair with scissors.
The girl went home and reported the matter to her parents Inderjit Kaur and Swaran Singh, who went to the police. The school teacher was arrested on Monday.
The parents have demanded stern action against the school teacher even as human rights activist Baba Darshan Singh said, cutting off hair of Sikh daughters amounted to murder. Assistant Sub Inspector Jagtar Singh said that a case has been registered against the school teacher.
