New Delhi: The headmaster Kamalakanta Das of a primary school in Balasore district of Odisha, declared a day's off to mourn the death of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The former PM is very much alive and the incident is a clear example of believing baseless rumours.
The headmaster then held a memorial meeting to mourn the death of Vajpayee and the school was suspended for the day after that. According to Das, he was told this false news by a teacher at a teachers' meeting that he attended in another school.
The locals of the district were furious over this and rushed to the District Collector (DC) with a complaint. Sanatan Mallik, the DC told a daily, “He (Das) will be placed under suspension and if required criminal proceedings will also be initiated against the headmaster.”
In a similar incident, the education minster of Jharkhand Neera Yadav paid homage to late former President of India APJ Abdul Kalam, many days before he passed away. The pictures of Neera Yadav giving floral tribute to him went viral soon enough and were condemned by all.
With the kind of anger and agitation being shown by the residents of Balasore district, Kamalakanta Das might get in huge trouble for his negligence.
