New Delhi: Lakshadweep continues to be the best state in the field of providing school education for a second year in a row according to the composite Educational Development Index 2012-13.
The rankings take into account the following four major indicators of school education - access, teachers, infrastructure and outcome.
All 35 states are ranked separately for each of the four indicators under Access Index, Teachers Index, Infrastructure and Outcome index.
The Index was released by the Human Resource Development Ministry and the National University of Educational Planning & Administration (NUEPA) on Thursday.
According to EDI, Puducherry secured the second spot, Tamil Nadu at third. Sikkim, Manipur and Mizoram, the three Northeastern states, clinched 4th, 9th and 10th place respectively.
Bihar, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Goa, and Assam continue to slide down and are at the bottom with Jharkhand hitting the lowest spot at 35.
Punjab secured top position in North India while Delhi has also performed poorly, losing seven ranks from sixth in 2012 to 11th now.
