Her poise was similar to that of her late husband, encounter specialist Vijay Salaskar who was killed in the 26/11 terror attack. Meeting media persons outside her home on Monday afternoon, Smita Salaskar said the news of Ajmal Kasab's conviction had made her happy. But she would be "fully satisfied only after Kasab has been sentenced to death, and finally, hanged."

She said, "Now, it is for the government to ensure that Kasab is hanged as soon as possible. Action should also be taken against the masterminds of the attack, who are hiding in Pakistan. The police department and the judicial system have worked hand in hand to convict the terrorist in what possibly is a record time."

Smita, who had been following the trial through newspapers and news channels, said she was confident that Kasab would eventually be found guilty, and sentenced to death. Still wearing her mangalsutra around her neck, she added that even now she feels the presence of her husband in her life. "I feel he is still alive," she said.

"I am proud of my husband. He bravely fought the terrorists on that fateful night," Smita said. Her daughter, Divya, is studying in London.

"There have been times when I tried to keep my daughter away from the whole scenario. But she, too, is as strong as her father. For it was her father who taught her to be a brave person," Smita said.
