New Delhi, Jul 20: Forty out of 101 Air India pilots, who were sacked for going on 58-day strike, have submitted their representation to the management expressing willingness to join duty.
“Forty out of 101 pilots whose services were terminated from Air India for going on strike have so far submitted their representations and indicated their willingness to join back their duties,” an Air India spokesperson said in a statement.
“While nine sacked pilots sent their representations against termination of their services and stating their willingness to resume work yesterday another 31 representations were received today by the airline management,” he said.
The remaining 61 pilots would submit their representations by tomorrow, sources in the Indian Pilots Guild, which spearheaded the agitation, said.
The protracted strike by the pilots on issues relating to career progression, was called off on July three after the airlines management had assured the Delhi High Court that it will sympathetically consider their grievances including reinstatement.
The airline had claimed it incurred losses to the tune of over Rs 600 crore as a result of the prolonged strike.
A three-member Committee—comprising of Director (Personnel), SBU Head-MRO (Airframe), and Executive Director (Industrial Relations) -- has been set up by Air India to consider the representations of the sacked pilots.
The committee would tomorrow start work to dispose of the representations at the earliest, the airline spokesperson said.
He said the committee has asked eight pilots to appear before it in Mumbai tomorrow after only one of the nine pilots, who made their representations yesterday, came before the panel today.
