Vijayawada, Apr 1: Andhra Pradesh's minister of state for railways Kotla Jaya Surya Prakash Reddy said that about Rs 40,000 crore are required to complete all pending railway projects in the state.
He told reporters here on Monday that about 30 railway projects are pending in the state and they would be completed in a phased manner.
He supported the hike in fares by saying that internal resources should be improved to strengthen the financial condition of the railways.
He said that safety and better amenities are top priorities for railways and budget provisions have also been made in that direction.
He said that pay toilets and bathrooms will be provided at all major railway stations and such a facility would come up shortly in Hyderabad.
He said that bio-toilets will also be introduced in the railways to improve hygenic conditions in toilets.
About Vijayawada railway station, he said that five lifts and three escalators will be operational by May end. He said that there is a proposal to construct a satellite station at Gunadala near the city.
