New Delhi, Sept 13: The country's permanent mission in Geneva spent nearly Rs two crore in a year on medical expenditure on its 10-12 employees, External Affairs Ministry has said.
This was pointed out in an order by the Central Information Commission which has asked the Ministry to give information on expenditure incurred on each employee in the Mission and their relatives before September 30.
The case relates to information sought by Neeraj Kumar Singh from the Ministry on details of the reimbursement claims of expenses incurred on medical attention, medicines, treatments for the last one year by the Mission.
He also sought to know from the Ministry about measures adopted by the Mission to ensure that submitted receipt for purchased medicines without the prescription slip of the doctor are not fake.
The MEA said no complaints of fake receipts has come to its notice but did not give details about expenditure. After the First Appeal at the Ministry, Singh was given cumulative figure of expenditure incurred.
“FAA provided consolidate expenditure on medical claims settled by the Mission which comes out to be Swiss Franc CHF 3,93,408 ie Rs two crore in a year for only 10/12 Indian government employees. They did not provide the individual expenditure and nature of ailment on the ground that information is fiduciary in nature and disclosure of this information is breach of fiduciary relationship,” Information Commissioner Gandhi pointed out in his order.
He ordered the Ministry to provide information about expenditure incurred by each official and their relatives. PTI
