New Delhi, Oct 14: Former army chief Gen J N Chaudhuri wrote a 40-page covering note while forwarding the Henderson Brooks-PS Bhagat report on the 1962 Sino-Indian war debacle, and clearly blamed the then Defence Minister V K Krishna Menon for the debacle.
In his note, the then army chief wrote, poor military leadership and not equipment led to the debacle.
"There is no reason why the Indian Army cannot rise again and give a much better account of itself. I hope when the day comes, it happens under my escutcheon" the general wrote, reports Indian Express.
The Henderson Brooks-PS Bhagat report is still under wraps fifty years after it was presented to the government, citing official secrets as the main reason.
Nearly four pages of this covering note by Gen J N Chaudhuri focus on wartime Defence Minister V K Krishna Menon's interference in military matters, particularly on the shuffling of senior generals in the run-up to the month-long war, the IE report says.
The covering note, according to sources aware of the contents of the report, is the only place where there is a comment on the political leadership of the Defence Ministry.
