New Delhi : The central government on Monday sought a report from the Tihar Jail authorities after two inmates escaped from its high-security premises on Sunday.
The report was sought by the ministry of home affairs (MHA).
Of the two who escaped, one has been re-arrested, but the other is on the run, jail authorities said.
"...we have sought a clarification from Tihar authorities. Hopefully, their response will come in by today (June 29)," a home ministry official told IANS.
The two undertrials lodged at the jail escaped from its premises on June 27 by jumping the compound wall.
Saizan, 19, and Javed, 18, escaped from barrack number five from Block A of ward number 4 inside jail number seven on June 27.
The barrack is for Muslim youth to offer prayers during the month of Ramadan. There are 21 youth in this ward.
"The two accused somehow managed to escape from the ward by jumping the jail's wall by stepping on a pile of debris dumped there by PWD workers," Tihar Jail Deputy Inspector General Mukesh Prasad, told IANS.
Prasad said that Saizan has been re-arrested but Javed is on the run.
